Tuesday evening, December 6, join acting CDI director, Sharon Irish, at her work station, “Elbow Grease: Contributing to Ongoing Projects” at the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities’ work-in, “IPRH Now: What is to be Done? The Word of the Humanities in the Present.” Alongside postdoc Veronica Paredes, Sharon will discuss a cornucopia of opportunities for Illinois community members to get involved as movers, shakers, makers, mentors, coders and educators.
From IPRH:
Do you wonder what you can do to bridge the distances between the university and the world? Come to the IPRH Work-In and see what faculty, students, staff and community residents are thinking and doing about contemporary questions that command our attention – and the kinds of knowledge, expertise, experience and commitment they are mobilizing in the public sphere.
Learn about what an individual, group or community is doing;
Brainstorm a developing idea that you can help organize;
Share resources about what’s going on elsewhere in C-U and beyond;
Meet new people and start up your own group or project.
CDI projects to be discussed include:
- Illini Gadget Garage
- Champaign-Urbana Community Fab Lab
- Hip Hop Informatics
- Urbana Free Library technology volunteers
- Center for Solutions to Online Violence
- Wiki-Storming
- Dream Girls Academy
- Hack Nights
The IPRH’s theme this year is “Publics,” so attendees can expect special attention to be places on Public Humanities. This event is free and open to the public. Please come and bring a friend and neighbor. Children are welcome. Pizza and beverages will be served. Learn more about IPRH at their website.
