Welcome to CU Hack Nights!

The CU hack night is a weekly, ongoing meetup of diverse people from our local community. Our focus is problem solving, using our collective skills. Most of our work is computer-based, but it doesn’t have to be limited to technology. Participants who have shown up so far are interested in housing, public health, mass transit, and safety. The possibilities are endless!

For this Summer, we meet Tuesday nights from 6 – 8+ PM in the atrium at the EnterpriseWorks (60 Hazelwood Drive, Champaign, IL 61820). Dinner is part of the meeting.

It’s worth emphasizing that our hack night is not a competitive contest (or “hackathon”). We are not under time constraints and we’re not judging the output.

At any given hack night, we need two kinds of people:
– People who have specific skills, or want to learn and practice them.
– People who have particular ideas or problems to solve, and need help working on them.

During the working part of each meetup, we break into groups to work on projects, which could be small or go on over many weeks. Anyone is welcome to bring an idea to work on, and everyone is welcome to work on whatever idea sounds most interesting to them.

At the beginning of our meeting, we introduce ourselves, share announcements, and have a speaker talking briefly about something of interest. Then we break into groups and, well, hack!

Our next hack night is on Tuesday, June 13, from 6 – 8+PM at the EnterpriseWorks (60 Hazelwood Drive, Champaign, IL 61820).

Just for a bit of background, we have adapted the model of the Chicago Hack Nights, which started about three years ago.  You can read more about their template here.
